How many fish?

:dog: I'm all set up and going through the cycling process but did a bit of window shopping the other day at my LFS. I have a 48"x15"x15" tank which currently has tuffa rock (some live) and live sand in it. How many fish can I have? So far I'd like 1 or 2 clownfish, an algae blenny, 2 blue neon goby, 1 or 2 royal grammas and I'd love a yellow tang but don't think my tank is big enough? Is this too many? Also I'm not sure what is afe in the way of crabs and shrimps etc - I bought an excellent couple of books on marine but neither of them go into details on these
 
Well, i work that out at 46gal tank...i would suggest 6 or 7 fish in a tank that size..That is what i used to have in my 46gal, the bioload ( wee and poo ) was fine...Yellow tang is out am afraid....

when it comes to shrimp and crabs, review this thread. It should answer the questions you may have in mind about inverts..

A good book, if you dont have it already, is "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner"...i rate this book highly...

Thanks! Just ordered book online so will hopefully be here in a couple of days. I want a bigger tank already! Theres just too many fish out there I like!
Obviously not in this tank I have now but when I get a bit ( or maybe a lot ) more experience what set up would I need to keep seahorses?:girl:
 
seahorses dont need anything special really..all they require is a low flow tank and best to have a species tank for them as they are very slow and labourious and so loose out on a lot food as the other faster fish get there first..

However, saying that, Germanman on here, keeps them succesfully in a mixed tank...But, as a beginner, i would do a species tank...

I can't say enough about Bob Fenner- an avid diver who really knows his stuff.

You can read a lot of the facts and Q&A from him (and others) on wetwebmedia.com, and it's updated daily with Q&A. There's so much information on that site as well as a great search function.
