I would do a water change as I do not care for your ammonia at .5.

You may have gotten some bad bio-spira.

Looks like you are in for a fishy cycle.

Was the bio spira put in to close to the meds being put in?
 
Meds were put in a few weeks ago and since then many water changes have been done and the carbon has been put back in.

We just did a 50% water change and the ammonia level stayed at .5.
 
Make sure your reagents are good in your test kit.

Can you have a sample read at your fish store to confirm the reading?

What kind of water conditioner do you use...some give false positives on ammonia.
 
API tap water conditioner.
