how many gallons & how to fix?

Ok, thanks for the site, I guess I have a 29 gal then. Well it seems I am going to have to up-grade a little sooner than originally planned!

The GE, 100% pure silicon in the home improvement centers are much cheaper than that marketed for aquariums. GE has two lines, I forget the full name, but thy'r labeled ... I or ... II. The original one (I) is labeled as aquarium safe, but I don't believe (II) specifies aquariums. The important thing is that they have no anti fungus additives, latex etc. which many caulks do.

Or on the other hand, a plain 29 with black edging is only about $35 brand new. Might not be worth the hassle if you ask me.

Well, I've already cut out the old stuff and OH MY GOSH it was a PAIN IN THE *ss!!! I don't EVER want to do that again!!! Trying to separate the sand from the eco-complete was hard enough (didn't get it perfect, but close enough), then taking out the old silicon (whatever), man that was a pain, I still have a few spots where I have to get some gunk that didn't come up off and then I can start the putting it on process, then I have to wait another 48 hours before I can even start putting everything back in....this tank is driving me nuts and all this for a tank is not much bigger than the one I already had ERRRRR!

Thanks for the help everyone!

IMO, 30 gallons is too much water to worry about the tank possibly breaking or not sealing properly. I would save up some money and just buy a new one, or find a used one that is in good shape.

Good luck either way

If it was me, I would just buy a brand new 29 gallon with black silicone sealing for around $35-40. You probably have a hood that came with the 29 you received. The black silicone is nice because you don't have to worry about any potential staining should you be forced to use staining medications like some antibiotics, analine green, malachite green, acriflavine...

well the thing is I'm trying to save for a bigger better tank not spend on a size I don't really want..anyway since I already got the old sealent out and already had the stuff to reseal it, I got it all resealed and it's all full and not leaking (yet anyway), so wish me luck with this one until I can get my new one!

Thanks for the help,

Gin
