How many people honestly Quarantine?

In a way I'm almost regretting asking the question.:)

It seemed like everyone quarantined even though I had a strange feeling that few actually did. Part of my planning (and purchasing) was in preparation for quarantining EVERYTHING (sans LR and LS). I've got my 10 scrubbed and ready. I've even got a sponge filter running in my sump ready to go. I'm still probably going to QT my fish though, just cuz I remember what a pain in the arse it was the first time I had a go at a big tank.

Just because you currently have a 2:1 ratio of people who don't to those that do don't let that stop you.. I personally just don't have the space for another tank. I live in a 2 bdrm apt.. I guess I could try the garage but what fun would that be?
 
I don't quarantine unless a preventative 1/2 dose treatment for a half hour or so is one ... then sometimes ...

Like when I got the puffer with the severe fin and tail nip - I put him in a medicated water for a little while to initiate the healing process first.

I've only had a medical problem once - it was a minor case of ick which was handled the day it started to show ...

Sometimes I will get a fish to save it's life even if I have to find it a new home.
 
I always do, I've been burned by Ick more than once plus I have clown loaches and other sensitive fish. Now that I quarantine, ick has not been a problem at all and I can relax and not worry when I do release the new fish into my main tank.

I have a small quarantine tank so I can only purchase new fish very slowly, which works out fine. I have two new clowns up there now 8)

I don't have a lot of room to setup tanks, so if I get ich, I have to pick and choose which fish to save, and that's just not fair. I put my chromis in, 2 died, so I ran to a LFS and picked up 3 more for the 1 left in the tank, and 3 days later, ich outbreak. So I quarantine every time now.

I won't. I've got all the stuff already anyways so I might as well. I completely understand about your space issue. I remember what living in an apartment is like. :)
 
hah, currently my QT is sitting in the furnace / hot water closet as it's the only place I could find for it. I've got a spotted mandarin hangin out (which btw is a pain to quarrantine seeing as how I have to keep the QT stocked with pods constantly now). Space issues I completely understand! But the reality is a QT only needs to be 10 or 20 gallons from my experience, unless your trying to quarrantine that huge trigger for your 225..... (wouldnt that be nice).

My question is, how long do people quarantine? I typically go a week or two and if I dont notice any strange problems I go ahead and move em. I've heard ich has a 6 week TTL (god geek speek, uh time to live) so I'm not sure if I'm unnecessarily risking my display tank, it's not a huge deal to wait 4 more weeks.
 
Man I dont QT my LFS does it for me. So I dont never had a hospital tank. my Regal JUST got ich and since I did not have a qt tank I had to go buy one. and now I have her in a 25G trying to do hyposalinity to get rid of the ich she will be there for the next 6 weeks :( I QT all my tangs for a month SO just cuz you QT for a month or so does NOT mean ich cant happen to you.I really hate that she got it but I caught it in time and hope and pray that my display tank does not have an outbreak.

I usually tend to get my fish directly from the shipping source and not the LFS (well I mean I do have to go to the LFS but the fish are in bags and never touch the LFS water) for other big fish like tangs I have my lfs qt them for about 3-4 weeks. stuff like snails, crabs, shrimp, clown gobys, chromis and coral I tend to drip and let them into my display tank. So IDK from now on Im going to QT everything myself since I dont want to have a repeate of this ich.
