im planning on using sand for the first time in my upcoming betta tank renovation. how many pounds per gallon would i need to acheive a depth of at least 2-3 inches in a standad 10G tank (10x20). i was also told silica sand is recommended as it is easier to clean and won't cloudy up the tank as much.
How many pounds per gallon with sand as substrate?

This will depend on the sand itself. I would plan on useing 15lbs. Start out with 10 and work up from there. I always buy more then I need just incase I am working on another tank and use some of my sand to give the new tank a jump start. Good luck
