I dont class it as tank flow because its not a dedicated device to create flow in the tank, its doing another job, so, all your getting is partial flow from it...
Really? A number of LPS come to mind. I think we will need to agree to disagree.
??? I have very fleshy LPS and an anemone in 130x + turnover, such as bubble coral, open brain, etc. If the flow is mostly volume and low in velocity, you'd be surprised what you can get away with. Also, carefully tweaking that flow will give lower flow spots that are perfect for such corals--it just takes a bit more effort.
I agree, and seeing that it is adding to the minimum flow it is bonus flow.
Although some LPS prefer a moderate flow 25x would be considered minimum flow for a reef so therefor not being too much for a moderate coral. There are some that keep their reefs at 60x, 100x for turnover and that I could see being too much for a LPS in captivity. But 25x plus return flow? Not a problem in most cases.
I think I'm going to add in another 4 this weekend and put it on the back pointing at the front middle of the tank. And then I'll be rearranging things for a week or two till I see that it looks like everything is happy. I know my polyps don't want direct flow, but they do seem to enjoy the blowing around they get from the water bouncing off the glass and scattering around. I have only had one mushroom get up and move himself to find a new spot and he's down in the bottom of the tank in a corner and seems happy there.
