how many discus would fit in a 60 gallon tank (empty) and with what other fish (any possible oddballs) would do good with them?

It also depends on the maintence your willing to do. Generally figure 10gal per adult fish. Keep in mind that discus aren't small, 6.5" on average as adults, some strains are fully capable of reaching 9-10" however.

Knowing what kind of maintence routine your willing to do would greatly help with knowing what stocking advice to give you.

well during the week im pretty busy with school and football practice and homework but during the weekend (mostly on sundays and a few hours on saturday) i have a pretty good amount of time to do stuff and im willing to do whatever i need to do to keep my fish healthy but i would like to just keep a few...mabey 2-3 and some other tropical fish what would be some good fish to keep along with discus ??

I would do 4 adult fish, a small shoal of cardinals, a few otos, couple farlowella or ancistrus.

The adult discus will let you get away with doing a bit less maintence, but I would still reccomend doing two 75-80% changes spaced out evenly during the week.
