how many?

The only thing with discus is that they're so expensive compared the fish I had picked out originally.
Not only are they expensive, but they are not a fish for new aquaria people either. They require such pure and perfect water quality that they really are a more challenging species to keep. I would not say they are for inexperienced or those unwilling to do multiple water changes weekly. I love them...I think they are simply stunning fish, but just not for everyone.

Choosing your fish is a personal matter of taste. I have a friend who adores the "ugly ducklings" of the fish world. If it makes you say "that's weird" she loves it. :D I like fish that are more "uncommon", while another friend thinks her angels are the most amazing creatures on earth. Research what you think you may like to have and plan a tank around it. I guarantee with the effort you put in to starting the tank, research, cycling, etc. You will love what you choose. It's such a fun and addicting hobby!

BTW...I am growing out two half black veil tail angel babies for my friend (too small to go with her angels just yet) It's the first time I have kept angels and they are adorable, curious fish. I am surprised by how much personality they have. Actually...we loved them so much I went and bought two just for our house so I'm a new angel owner myself! :D

What if i had 2 koi angels, 6 false juli cory cats, 6 rummynose tetras, and some Boesemani Rainbow's? would that be too much?

I really don't think your tank is large enough for Boesemani and Angels. I would skip the boesemani (even though I am a huge rainbow fan). How about a pleco?? For something very pretty there are the gold nugget plecos. They are gorgeous and won't outgrow that tank, although a tad expensive http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=863

I wouldn't add them until your tank has been very well established though...several months after cycling ( this was a newbie mistake I made). Sometimes you can find them at chain pet stores for about $20. OR a bushy nose or albino bushy nose. Excellent at algae control and are far less expensive. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1039 They really have a face only a mother can love but they really grow on you. I have two and adore them. Most pleco's appreciate some driftwood or bogwood. They will actually nibble on it...for a gold nugget it's a must.

There are also some small loach species you could add. Golden Zebra Botia's are one of my favorites and they make this adorable "clicky" noise when they are happy and eating. Also Straita Botia are beautiful and would do well in your tank size.

If you DON'T get loaches or botia, snails are a cool addition to your tank (loaches and botia makes snacks of them). I love mystery snails and apple snails. The apple snails get to the size of well....apples. The mystery stay smaller and have some really neat colors...blue, gold, black, pearl and a mixture of all. They are fun to watch cruising around your tank.

You really have tons of options for that size tank. You will have to post pictures when you get it up and running. Man I could think of a dozen things that would be cool to add with angels. I love the ideal of the juli and rummy nosed. Just think about another bottom feeder too. I suggest this because for some reason I have a love of loaches, cory's, cats and such!! LOL . OH...I would also bump it up to 8 rummy nosed. They look gorgeous when they school and are one of my favorites in our 40. They are also good indicators of good water quality. If their noses don't "rummy" up after a few minutes when lights come on...do water test. I bet you're due for a water change. Acclimate them to a tank really slowly too. For some reason these guys stress during moves easy.

Sorry...didn't mean to ramble on. :o You wanted an answer, not a book!

Thats Great! I'll Definitley post some pics when I get it up and running! it will be a long time though.

I'll skip the rainbows and probably get a pleco or some type of loach. Oh well, I've got lots of time to choose. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help everyone!

You have so many different options. Like I said, make a trip to a Fish store and see what interest you. You will be amazed at all the options you have. Rasbora's are also a pretty schooling fish, especially the Harlequin Rasbora's. Really there is just so much to choose from. Hatchet fish would take up some of the upper levels of the tank. Like I said before. I think it's great that you are taking the initiative to research and plan like you are. Your fish will appreciate it and you will end up with a very successful tank.

I like the pearl gouramis and they always seemed to get along well in my angel tanks at least until the angels paired off then nothing was safe. I think some rams are always a good addition to an angel tank. I would be very carefull about any of the tetras other than the neons or cardinals as tetras tend to be fin nippers and neons and cardinals can become food when the angels start getting large. JMO
