How much do Indian dwarf puffers cost and can you get them at Petco?

they are available at petco and petsmart, not sure how much though since the petco nearest me does not carry FW puffers, should be a couple of dollars each. what kind of tank are you planning for DP's?

The Petco I live by takes very good care of their fish, surprisingly. Plus it has a huge selection of fish.

If you are thinking of getting them I would start by first setting up a snail breeding tank. Pond snails are a great choice, breed fast and are easy for them to eat. But get that running and have a good supply of healthy snails long before you buy any puffers.

And if buying them look closely first and see if they are plump or skinny. If they ae skinny with big heads avoid them as they will die.

TKOS gave some good advice; having a snail tank fully populated and ready for the puffers is a great idea, but I don't feel it's necessary.

IME DP's don't bother with the shells of the snails, they angle their attack when feeding so that they suck the snail out of it's shell, which makes me believe they don't have teeth that can grow to the point that they're unable to eat like their much larger cousins.

In fact, I feed my DP's bloodworms (live and frozen), brine and snails as a bi-weekly treat and they're doing great. I will be setting up a snail tank soon though just to give them a more natural diet.

DP's don't require snail shells to wear their teeth down, since they won't grow out like most puffers will. but since they still are molluscivores, they will appreciate snails as part of their diet.
