How much filtration??

HELP!! How much filtration??

I have a 55gal-no plants. I currently have a Aquaclear 300
running, but do I need more? My occupants are: 1-6"Texas, 1-
6"Red Devil, 1-4"Convict, 1-4"Jack Dempsey, and 1-huge pleco!

But if he is planning on getting live plants and using CO2 injection, a canister would be better because it produces less surface movement. With more surface movement, the CO2 is realeased into the atmosphere faster.
 
By looking at your current inhabitants, I would say "hell yes" you need more filtration...that tank is overstocked, but I'm not going to preach to you about it right now...your decision. With your current fish load, I would seriously consider a really good canister filter as well as another AC 300-500....and make sure you vacuum the gravel and change 50%+ water weekly. When those fish are grown...you'll have a mess on your hands unless you plan on transferring them to a much larger tank...good luck.

Its another 300. I also have an old Ehiem canister laying around. Maybe Ill clean it up and try to buy some new hoses for it. With just the 2 AC 300's, the tank has really improved in only 6 hours. The problem I was having with the cloudiness is still a little there but by no means as bad as it was.

Slappy McFish I do realize that when they get a little bigger I will have to just get a bigger tank. I have had these fish, minus the placo, for about a year in this 55gal. The only filter I was using previously was a whisper 30-60. It did fine up until about a month ago. Now, the water is really cloudy looking. Ill see how it does with the 2 AC 300's for now.
 
Get that Ehiem canister going or get a new canister. Either way it's good to have that extra filtration! :) Vacuum as often as you can, weekly water changes would be great! (water temps during changes need to be the same..)
