Is there any rule of thumb for feeding goldfish by their size ie per inch, everywhere you look you read differently. If everyones fish are like mine they would eat constantly, and mine eat fast!! I do not want to underfeed or overfeed, but can never find a consistent answer.

Well I've heard that fish stomachs are the size of their eyeballs. So if your feeding say, pellets, then it would probably be a about 1-2 pellets each two or three times per day. It's a good idea to let goldfish fast at least once per week. The reason they are hungry all the time is because if they were carp in the wild, their food would be scarse. Thats why you feed them little and let them fast. Hope that helps. -Lindsey

not to mention the fact that goldies dont digest as much of what they eat as a cichlid does. by this i mean the digestive track of a goldfish isnt as efficient thats why they produce so much waste i would say u can feed ur goldies once daily and that would be fine.

they are also better at digesting carbohydrates than they ere at digesting protein. So they would need less high carb food than they would high protein food
