I remember reading somethign about how nitrites take longer to peak and come down then ammonia does. I'm doing a fishless cycle and my ammonia took 11 days to come down to zero(from 5ppm). I'm now on day 25 and still have nitrites way off the chart.I was wondering how much longer it takes then the ammonia?2X? My nitrites started coming on day 8 and since day 11 have been >5.0ppm.

I have seeded 4 times with more and more filter sponges and gravel. I know i'm being impatient but i jsut wanted to know generally how much longer do the nitrite spikes last?

I didn't see where you tested for nitrAtes. If so, is any showing up?

You right about the patience part. To help it go by better, I saw in an earlier thread about sitting back and watching. Also drinking some wine to help to pass the time. :D

Test for Nitrates and yea sit back and drink a bottle of wine and your patience will grow(not really you'll just be drunk and not care anymore :D ).

In my experience, nitrItes did take longer. But I believe there is no sure answer. I have 5 tanks and each one varied from a couple of days to two weeks at the most.

I think I remember my nitrite spike lasting about twice as long as my ammonia spike. 1 week ammonia, and 2 weeks for the nitrite.
