How much salt and fish in a 3,000 gal pond?

Hello everyone,
does anyone use salt in their Koi pond? If so how much? I have a salt meter that measures in %. I had read some where that .25% was good, any thought on this? There are no fish or plants as of yet and we are guessing the pond is about 3,ooo gal. Also what would be the proper number of fish, (looking at Koi) and I already have a comet in an aquarium that I will put there. We have a skimmer, ,7500gph pump and a uv light. I want to do this right so my fiish will be ok, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Koi are not saltwater species nor are they brackish. There is no need to use salt unless you feel it necessary to do so.

Salt in pond is a very good thing to do, help relieves stess and helps the fish with breathing. Salt is also used to control certain parasites too so adding some to your pond will not hurt. .25-.50% sounds about right for Koi pond but never go over it if you are goign to keep plants-this will kill your plants and remember not to add anymore salt without replacing the water in there before doing so. As for as for the number of fish, it depends on your filtration capacity. For a 3,000 gallon pond- I would not go over 10-12 Koi fish (10-16" in size) but you can have a little bit more if your fish are smaller: Kois are dirty fish and will produce alot of waste so make sure you have sufficient filtration and a test kit to test water conditions every once in a while.
