Hey everyone,

Im getting ready to setup a 125g. I am just wondering approx. how much substrate(sand) I will need. I am looking for around 1" above the trim around the bottom of the tank. I am buying substrate and supplies in spurts, but would like to start setting up ASAP, however, Id like to fill this tank with water and plant it all at the same time and Im not sure if I have enough substrate to begin or if I should wait another week and be sure I have enough sand to begin.

Currently I have 9 twenty gallon bags of substrate: 2 bags of flourite plant substrate(for plants and nutrition), 3 bags of Eco-complete cichlid sand, and 4 bags of black tahitian moon sand..... Thats about 180 lbs of substrate, and Ive never set up a 125g. and Im just trying to see if this will be adequate for that one inch obove trim or not..... If not Ill grab a few more bags of tahitian sand on payday
Thanks

2 inches of sand maybe, i have 3 but its very slightly to much.

Thanks guys,

Both calculators are similar in the sum of the equation, and extra thanks for turning me on to plantedtanks website ;) .

According to both sites I have more than enough substrate so Im setting up saturday morning :) :) Cant wait!!!!!
