Normally do about 20% once a week. Might stretch that out to 10 days instead of 7, in which case I'll do more like 30-40%. Never just take out water only, I always use the python and will vac at least partially where I already know the most accumulation forms. The timing and amounts are about the same.. right now, 110 gallon, 40 gallon, 30 gallon, 26 gallon, two 10 gallons, two 5 gallons.. setting up a few more.
I use a big basin in the sink while I'm vaccing in case I suck up some sand. All the rest has gone down the drain. After it settles in the basin, I use that water for the plants I have nearest the kitchen. I'll water the other plants close by the tank in the bedroom and bathroom (yes I have one in there too) using the python when I'm refilling the tank... it's a handy water dispenser, and I'm right there.. so that's easy.
I don't like using the kitchen faucet as much. The water pressure isn't as good. But I'm in an apartment and there's no outside faucet here. Years ago when I was in a house, the fish tank water went out to the grass, roses, and herb garden.

My husband was watching me do a water change last week, and said someone needed to invent exactly what you have!
I have a 29g, a 14g, and a 10g tank. I do a 20% water change twice a week. I was thinking that was a lot until reading this thread. And I do use some of the water for my indoor plants in the winter, and my landscaping outside in the warmer months. All that fish poop is good fertilizer. And I squeeze the dirty filter from my pond pump directly over my plants outside every time I clean them. As for a partial water change in my 700g pond, I do 50% every spring.
