How much water in this tank?

That's probably my best option Bob.

Make a template and compare it to the canopy of the 44.

yep measure out the top piece and a local glass shop should be able to whip you a top out in no time.

I don't find dimensions anywhere for the 44G canopy.

I found the dimensions of the 44G: 21-15/16"L x 25"W x 25-7/8"H
The dimensions of my 50G: 31"L x 25.5" w x 24"H

I was trying to find somewhere where it says what each panel length measures on the 44G and haven't found it yet.

Check the small white label on the bottom. Look from inside the cabinet provided it is still there.
If you find such label with Anchor marking, this is probably common Perfecto 44G Pentagon tank.
As far as different dimension, maybe differently measured?

You could make a template and cut your own (2) pieces (front and back) at local glass shop and buy back strip and flanges at lfs but i recommend to check with either lfs or mfr to verify thickness of glass for flanges to work properly. This is of course with an assumption that this is Perfecto tank.If you are in NJ, you should be able to find display model of 44G Pentagon. Call few privately owned lfs such as Fishtown on Route 17, Ocean Gallery, etc etc. I am sure one of few large store should have one on display.
If you are in Queens at all, call Fishtown on Northern Blvd to see if they have display model.
All you got to do is place your template on top of dispay tank.
If it is same, you can just buy GC made by same mfr for about $50-$60 rather than running around to make your own.
