I'm planning to get 2 150 gallon tanks..
one problem is the floor of our house is made of wood.
and its on the 2nd floor.
right now there are 2 85 gallon tanks on the floor.
i'm planning to replace the 2 85 gallon tank with 2 150 gallon tank..
how do i compute if the floor can take the wight?
i'm planning to put the aquarium stand on 2 pcs of wood so that the weight will be spread out across the beams..
will the floor be able to take the wight?

Unless I missed something in the drawing, you tank stand will do exactly the same thing that the two proposed boards will do. Either way I'd consult an engineer, and maybe have the floor re-enforced from below.

two tanks are goin to weigh in at around 2500 pounds..or 1275 pounds each. Are these tanks going end to end against the wall?
And it that wall an outside wall or an interior wall. How old of a place is this you are in? are there any walls below you that run in the same direction as the wall in your diagram? what are you going to use as stands? what is on the floor..carpet or wood? Does the floor move when you walk on it ?

your drawing wont distribute much weight at all. In fact the ply thats already down on the floor is doing exactly what you propose to do.

In order to put that much weight above the beams, you need to at least double them up and probably install vertical supports.

thanks for the feedback /suggestions.

the wall goes down below.
the 2 aquariums have a steel stand .
the wood doesn't move much when i walk ...
right now there are 2 tanks in that place which i plan to replace..

its an interior wall that goes all the way down..
i've been living in this house for 28 years already..
same age as me:)

really have to look for an engineer or just place my tanks downstairs..
problem is i don't go out much..
so might neglect my tanks if they are pleced outdoors...:sad

I wouldnt do it..maybe one tank on a good wood stand that will help ditribute the weight..but I'd never put that big of a tank on a stand thats only got 4 feet . Check with an engineer for sure. I built homes for 10 years and have been keeping fish over twice that. Im no expert at structural stress but I can tell you with fair certainty that the floor is not going to support that much weight. If you are able to..shore it up somehow. Good Luck. and let us know what happens

Well, by interior, do you mean just a wall that is not one of the four main sides of your house? I think what was originally asked was is the wall that the tanks are on a supporting wall, one that the house actually uses for support, or just a seperating one.

Honestly, I think its going to be too much weight, roughly 3000 lbs. I might sreiously consider having the floor reinfourced for that.

yes its a supporting wall.
i tried jumping on the floor and its really hard..
but guess i'll just put my tanks outdoors to be sure...
