How should I filter a 40gal breeder

Looking to get a 40 gal breeder up and running. Been indecisive about what route to go on for filtration. A couple of 40-gal rated HOBs (Aquaclear 50's, pretty much) or a canister, or a 10 gal sump. Wouldn't have a problem with drilling the tank if necessary.
Bioload won't be anything much, 3 moonlight gouramis 4-5", 1 cae 5", 25 white clouds 1-1.5". Can't decide on what else to put with them.

gimme your thoughts.

I like the Marineland 350 bio-wheel setup. On my 55 I have a magnum 350 and Marineland 350. I think the Marineland is quiter. On my 90gallon I think im gonna buy two marineland 350's. You can get them at petsmart.com for around $30 each.

Sorry, I didnt read your last line... Anyway my true opinion is listed above. Also I like the marineland 350 better than the emperor. JMO

I have a couple of HOTs. IMO they are best when used for mech filtration using the micron cart. I dont use the models with biowheels.

I have a 40b with and adult discus duo and 11 big fat sterbai corys plus a bunch of live plants. I have an AquaClear 200 on one end and 150 on the other and it does fine. Its been running for about a year now.

so 2 aquaclear 200's would be good? they're $20/ea on sale so that would be the cheapest route i can imagine right now. i coincidentally somehow have a brand new box of aquaclear filter foam for the 200/50, so i think that's a sign.

i think i'll go with that. how should i fill each filter with media? one mech, one bio? or both with mech and bio?

I would not get the AC200's.

the reason is that in terms of media capacity, they are quite small.

for example, the AC 300 (aka AC70) holds about twice the amount of media as one 200.

I run an AC200 on a 10 gallon. They are not very big filters.

I would go with two AC300's though.

that would be much better for only a few bucks more.

2 AC300's won't be too much for a 40gal? they're $8 more each.

You're saying that the media of 2 AC200's would be insufficient for a 40 gal?
