How should I install this 3D background?

Sorry for the bad cell phone pics.

This is what I'm working with...

I want the intake and outlet to be hidden. However, the background is a couple of inches short of the tank height so I could put it against bottom and leave the outlet above the background height. I could cut a a hole/mesh for the inlet where it's located behind the background. The background has a little curvature to it so it's not sitting up against the back of the aquarium in the center. I could possibly orient the outlet vertically down the back/behind the background if I chose to lift the background off of the bottom to cover the full back of the tank. Then I might cut another hole in the background near the outlets.

What do you think?

This is what I've done so far. I think it will work fine. I can even use the space behind the background for additional bags of media like peat and bio-balls.

To allow fresh water exchange and keep the fish from getting behind the background, I used one of those DIY window screen things and made a screen to fit just the area up top. There is a screened hole for the intake just above the gravel bed and just right of center. The back and partial sides of the glass are painted black to hide the plumbing work.

I would appreciate your feedback thus far regarding the aquascape. I'm shooting for south american and when I've cycled it I'll add lots of flora.

u could always use a sump and forget having any tubes in the tank if you had the tank drilled.

i looks like your basically going to be filtering the same small area of water over and over and the rest of the tank is not going to get adequate filtration or flow?......well it looks that way anyway to me.
but good luck with it.

is that aluminum?

what kind of screen is that? metal? fiberglass? or vinyl?
