How soft is a khuli loaches skin?

Based on how mine act, I'd say it's probably about as tough as your skin - not the skin on your hands and feet, but more like the skin in the more sensitive areas.

Why do you ask? Are you looking for a way to tell if your substrate is too harsh?

yah i just don't want my substrate to be to harsh it is cinder sand.

cinder sand is harder and heavier than pumice but it seems to be rounded no jaged edges. feels just like all the other sand ive ever felt that will sink in water without be turned into dust cloud.

If it doesn't feel sharp at all, it should be fine for the kuhlis.

One thing I would be concerned about is what it might do to the water chemistry. I dunno, that's why I'd worry.

I does nothing to my water chemistry it was formed naturally around here, mine near here, by mount lassen orginally lava raining from the sky, cinder comes in golfball sizes to sand to dust. basically it is stable unless you have a powerful kiln.

It is black , the red is what has iron in it the black Ive had with my other fish and snails and frogs and it is fine.
I like it because it is cheaper than dirt for me.

Thanks hebily for the reassurance.
