How tall is your tank?

And no, I don't mean the aquarium itself. I'm wondering how tall your aquarium sits in your home...Do you like it when the top of the aquarium is at eye-height, or do you want the top to be about chest-high so you can reach in without a stepladder? Do you want it waste-high so you can sit down and enjoy it for hours?

Just curious...mostly cause I'm designing a stand in Sketchup as part of the 65gal River Tank project.

i like it so i can reach in without a stepstool...for some tanks (like my corner tank) i still need a step stool to vac the back becasue of depth. right now i am in the middle of setting up a "wall o' tanks" and half of them will be eye-height....guess it depends on what you are setting up, the schematic of the room, etc. its definately easiest to deal with tanks i can reach into (for aquascaping purposes and maintenance).

My favorite tank is my 30xh. It is sitting on a lateral file cabinet, so the top of the tank is about chin-level for me. I do need to climb onto a small step-stool to do cleaning and plant maintenance. I don't mind, though. I love the look of a tall planted tank. :) I sit and watch it for hours.

For viewing tanks (display), I like the bottom of the tank at 42". It may mean that I need a step for maintenance depending on the tank, but I want to view it comfortably when sitting or standing.

Breeders and stuff in the fish room...anywheres.

My stand handles two tanks (above and below). The above is about 44 inches from the ground whereas the one below is about 12 inches from the ground. The smaller tanks have them about 36 inches from the ground.

Top of the tank is at my chest. Doesn't matter though. Tank is on my main desk where I sit all the time. From a sitting point the top is at my neck.

I like mine where they are about centered at eye level when I am sitting. This way they are not too short to see well when standing unless you get very close and they are in a room where I am usually sitting. If they were in a room where I would usually be standing like a hallway, an entry or something like that, I would want the top to be a little above eye level for good viewing.
I spend most of my time with the fish viewing them, not changing decor or cleaning filters. I figure that the step stool for maintenance is not important since its not a daily task anyway. I can reach to feed daily and I want to see my fish.
