How to amuse your solitary fish

Ms.Bubbles: *laugh out loud*

Black Moor: Thats a really great experience, its actually made me think about maybe in the future, i could toy with the idea of getting my fish to respond to a certain sound/music!

Kissofthegorami: Again that is so true! Still upset i have not managed to persuade you fully that fish need to be mentally stimulation though! Then again everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And at the end of the day, aslong as the fish and owner are happy, all is good!

No one's mentioned anything about the fact that 'entertaining' the fish can be just as fun for us as it is for them!

About 10 years ago I accidentally figured something out that I find extremely hilarious. I was playing with my cat using a laser pointer and I shone that red dot on the wall by the fish tank so she'd climb onto the chair next to the tank to get it. Imagine my surprise when I saw the FISH going over to that side of the tank like they were saying, 'What's that?! Can we eat that?' (It was a pair of gold severums at that time.) I pointed the dot into the tank, being very careful not to shine it into their eyes and they went CRAZY trying to get that red dot! It still cracks me up after all these years, you guys ought to try it sometime!

I have seen those advertised "laser light shows" for putting in the fishtank.. I often wondered.. won't it blind the fish? .. As for us entertaining the Fish, I often find it alot more entertaining then Television to sit and watch the fish at play, my Black Moor likes to swim across the bubbler wall and let it carry him to the top then with all he can muster he swims straight back down into it. Now I have the Bio Wheel running right and they seem to be having fun with the new current movement in the tank.

Yes :) As I understand it sound is quite a bit different underwater, but none the less water carries it well. As stated by someone else the Mythbusters episode was great they trained those fish, so sound is just another tool to train them with :)

Well, we're told not to spoil children (OK unless you're a grandparent), so we spoil our pets!

*laugh out loud*

I spoil kids and pets alike.
I can not see the problem with showering love and attention on something, as long as you emphasise the meaning of hard work etc.

It is also different for kids, one day they will be out there in the mean world having to fend for themselves. As for our pets, they will never leave our side and have to face hardship. ;)
