I got a little whisper filter for my 7 gallon tank and it says to replace the filter every month, but wouldnt i be taking all ( or most ) of the benificial bacteria out of the tank and starting the cycle over. What do i do to keep all the bacteria in the tank???

that is why you don't change all your media all at once.

If I were you, I would alternate and change things at different days

for example, if you have an ammonia pouch, a carbon pouch, and a foam pouch, then you would change the ammonia pouch one week and then the carbon the next, etc.

Despite the packaging, you only need to change filter media if it's falling apart and that happens rarely. To clean the debris out of it you can swish it around in some tank water in a bucket during a water change, which is what I do. HTH! :)
