how to control detrius with sump?

hi,I have a sump now for my 120 gallon.

the sump has 3 sections,one in middle where water enters where it goes to skimmer,over bio balls and back to centre and then through coarse foam baffles to return area.

how can this system take out detrius in main tank?

How is water being fed into your sump? Via a pre-filter box, or some other overflow method? Also, how is your water circulation? Generally speaking detritus buildup will not go away by itself with just a typical sump (wet/dry) setup without some help. Hermit crabs and serpant stars work very well! Goby's come in handy as well, they take care of some of it and provide some nice entertainment, just make sure your rock work is well situated. A combination of natures janitors and good water circulation will usually do the trick!

Your bioballs will actually collect detritus gradually and will become a nitrate factory. Yes it may take it out of the main tank but whats the point of that besides looks if it raises the nitrates in the sump.

Many aquarists disagree with bioballs for that reason.
