how to cool my water?

you can add ice to bowls outside the tank..cooling the air around the tank(kind of like a swamp cooler)
actually if the air isn't moving too much around the tank adding the ice to bowls around the tank will cool the ambient air surrounding the tank.

Yes, they're made for people, so they should be fine in the tank. I always check them to make sure they're not leaking. So far no problems. In a tank this small, you can't use the frozen bottle method.

i did use the frozen bottle method and it did work, it brought the temperature down about 3 degrees. Note that i also had an aquarium fan on 24hours..

The fan sucks...im planning to hopefully trade it in for a better one. Since i got it only yesterday.. =)

The water temperature was 31degrees celcius/88degrees fahrenheit at NIGHT. after placing the fan on till the next morning and added the frozen bottle into the tank, temperature in the morning was 28celcius/82fahrenheit. And after the bottle finished melting the temperature starts to slowly increase at about 1celcius per every 2hours and now it stays 30celcius. The fan i got doesnt make a difference, maybe the only thing it is capable of is slowing down the heat-rate of the water AFTER i placed the iced bottle in.

Going to try and do the trade-in today. =) thx for all the replies.

i decided not to spend anymore money on the aquarium, thus ended doing a simple mod the the fan i bought.

The output of the fan has a plastic grill. I tested the fan with the grill on and without it. I even surveyed the test on my mom. =D all agrees without the grill definitely has a more signigficant blow.. All i did was take a piece of nail, heat it on the stove and melt the grill off the fan. Its much better now..

I dont have a ceiling fan..but i do have a wall fan!! =D ill point the wall fan onto the tank and see how it goes alrite? =) thx for sharing!

Well, or... you could just not do anything.

First year into this hobby I had the same problem (living in California). The temp in my guppy tank spiked to 84-85 degrees (which is about 29 degrees celsius) and I had a fit. I had fans blowing onto the tank, into the tank, threw those blue cooling mods into the tank, seriously considered purchasing a prohibitively expensive chiller and then... I stopped worrying... and nothing happened. The vast majority of fish do fine, even in water up to 90F/32C, for a few days. I have yet to lose a single fish in my entire career as a fishkeeper, due to heatstroke.

lol i put frozen bottle everymorning..and leave the fan on 24hours.. yeah i should stop worrying too..

I have used those blue gel freezerpacks to cool a tank- instead of floating them in the tank (didn't want the chemicals to leak), I propped them against the OUTSIDE of the glass. I put them in direct contact with the glass, and it worked great. Three gel packs brought the temp of the 7-gal tank down 5 degrees F.

hey man, easier way is to freeze a .5litre bottle and float it on the water...it brought my 5.5g down 5degrees fahrenheit.. =)
