How to cure "wild" drift wood ?!?!?

Well I can't boil it...all I can do is poor hot water over it.....it works good on releasing the tannins....but it still floats and it's soft wood.....gotta get me some hard wood as soon as spring comes :grinyes: .....

Just scrub it down and it should be fine, be careful with that wood though.

With wood of unknown origins, its actually better not to boil it. Read in one of Amano's articles once that boiling a piece of softwood can actually cause resins and saps that have leached out of the top layers already to be released from the core, rendering an otherwise suitable piece of wood unusable. I'd go with the hard scrub and long bake in the sun method.

Ive heard of using hydrogen peroxide as it is h2o2 hydrogen and oxygen. Use a rubbermaid tub, water, and peroxide. Im sorry I forget the mix ratio. Check out this link to badoleross' build look at page 5 or 6 for the thread on driftwood. Good luck!
