How to deal with a backstabber at work?

if it were me, that person would be picking up teeth off the ground. But thats me and thats why im my own boss. Find the supervisor's supervisor and tell them the situation, and tell them you want the slander to stop before legal presidence arises. Legal problems always turn ears.

Watermelon - men ARE backstabbers too. The truth is, work is not a good place to make friends. People will seem to be your friend one day and stab you in the back the next. My last job, I worked in the same department for almost 5 years and out of all the people I had spent hours and hours with working on projects, going to meetings, talking to about their families; only one person actually called me at home to see how I was. I hate to put down the human race, but when it comes to work, its every "man" for themselves. Everybody wants to make the most possible amount of money. People do incredible things to obtain, maintain and increase their positions to get that money including step on nice people like you! Don't forget that. Do your job. Do the best you can. Be cordial but don't reveal any of your secrets. Observe people and how they treat others. You will see from your observations who you can trust. Then enjoy them, but take your time. And for goodness sakes. STAND UP FOR YOURSELF!!!

First of all, you need to ask yourself if what people are saying about you is true. If it can appear to be true to a number of people, then they will have legitimacy in firing you and you won't be able to do anything about it. So, if anything they say is even remotely true, or can be PERCEIVED as true, make sure you seriously clean up your act or you will have nothing in court.

Trust me on this, document everything with dates and times, list every detail you can remember. Also, start documenting any 'mistakes' or 'screw ups' that anyone else has made. This can back you up if you get fired. People need to be treated equally in a job and if you get fired for something that someone else didn't, then you have grounds for a lawsuit. If you do get fired you may have a harrassment and inequality suit on your hands if you are able to back it up with documented evidence. Trust me, they're documenting everything on YOU.

Furthermore, you need to ask yourself if this is the kind of institution you want to stay at. I know I wouldn't want to work there. My advice to you is to get your resume together and start searching for another job. Life is too short to be miserable for 12 hours a day (nurse's hours, right?). Yeah, that's half your life right there.

Good luck.

I have to agree with this, most of your job is perception anyway, even if you are really good at your job, if someone looks at you working and thinks you are slacking then that's the reputaion you will have.
