How to get Congo Tetras to come out?

2 days ago, I bought 7 congo tetras (only ones left at the store, each cost 45 kc/about $ 2) Ever since theyre in the tank, they always hang out in the back, right behind a huge java fern, so I never see them :thumbsdown: they only come out to feed... so my question is, what do I do to make them comfortable? The tank is in my signature... should I get a dark background? Would getting more of the congos help? cause im planning to do both anyway.

I'm surprise they are so timid they seem to be the nuts in my 90gallon tank. I started with 9 and had as many as 13 but a couple have died. I don't think I ever got clarity but the more colorful they are they should be males. It was explained to me that females are less color full.
 
They can be very timid. How big are the Angels? I suspect they will come out more as they get used to the new environs. I dont think the color of the background really matters.
 
They feel safe hiding in the plants. Just let them be. They'll come out when they are ready. ;)

The angels are at about 2-3 inches, and I havent seen them even look at the congos, so I think they're not a problem.
 
Do you have any sort of background on the tank? Shutting off one side/removing reflections can make the fish feel safer.

Also, although your J-ferns and anubias are huge and amazing :D more plants/rocks/hiding places would make them feel safer. More hiding places = more visible fish.

Edit: I do agree that at 2 days, they are still adjusting.
 
Yeah guys you were right they were just acclimating and adapting. when i came home today, they were swimming everywhere :D

roburtvigr, i only get good shots once they are still. The pics above are the best i can get when theyre moving. I really don't know much about cameras, only 1 out of 25 pictures comes out right xD I think stopping water flow when taking a picture helps.

Anyway, thanks everyone for helping me
