hi guys,

I would like to ask for your advice as to what would be the best method to get rid of spirogyra in a planted shrimp tank. I tried manual removal and timing of the lights but this bugger just keeps on growing...

any suggestions? or what could caused it... ?
here are my water parameters
Nitrates 10ppm
Ammonia 0
10 gal. rimless
24W T5HO for 8 hours a day
ADA amazonia substrate.
GH about 3-4?

thanks

would amanos pose a threat to the new born shrimplets?

I want to say no but don't quote me on that. I keep my Amano's in their own tank so can't really say as to how they interact with other shrimpies. I can say that don't bother both Oto eggs or fry which lead me to my answer.

Sry...Otos won't eat it.

hi guys... i guess manual removal and a three day blackout didnt work for my battle with spirogyra... so i guess i would have to try to introduce some amanos to the tank to help keep it at bay. ... since its a shrimp tank and i do constantly feed my Painted fire reds, with the abundance of food would the amanos still pick on the algae? or would they also compete with food with my PFRS?
