hi i would like to solicit some advice from you all on how to introduce food to my new painted fire reds. I just started a new tank and i have had my shrimps for two days now but they dont seem to be eating the shrimp food i placed? i tried algae wafers, shrimp granules, and shrimp lab shrimp food but shrimp eating... what am i doing wrong and how can i bait the shrimps to accept the food? do you feed them every day? i am running this shrimp tank in a planted tank.

all your suggestions are greatly appreciated

i just fed them once and there was an excess of food. so i just took out the excess food... and as what you said will just try to feed them i guess once every three days?

thanks... another follow up question... i know amanos are great algae eaters... would fire reds also eat Spirogyra algae?

aights guys i just got some fluval ebi shrimp mineral supplement to help them... im just a bit concerned about my shrimps not eating they all seem ok and swimming around and picking on the plants. and on the moss but not nipping on the shrimp food i place in the tank. could there be something wrong with my shrimps or could it be also the temperature? or the GH of the water?

How many shrimp do you have? How old is the tank?

My dwarf shrimp tanks get fed twice a week. My Macro tanks get fed more often (depending on population and how quickly they eat the food). With shrimp only tanks, it is easy to over feed. I would recommend that you feed a small pinch of food, that is well mixed in the water. This helps to distribute the food and shrimp of all ages can get some. If the food you add is eaten in ~10 minutes, add another pinch, repeat as many times as they eat the food. Pick one day of the week for feeding. Once you have a schedule, you can try feeding small amounts 3 to 4 days later. If the shrimp jump on it and eat it all, then permanently add another day to your feeding schedule.

good luck!

You'll have to determine the proper feeding schedule for your tank(s). There are other variables, such as; having multiple breeds of shrimp, snails, fish, or other invertebrates.

thanks... my shrimps have finally started to nip on the algae wafers i gave them... i guess it was just a matter of time eh... now three of my shrimps have developed a yellow saddle... how long would it take before i they would be able to develop eggs from the saddle stage? and how long approximately would it take for them to give birth from that stage on forward? im still very new to shrimps so i have no idea ...

thanks
