Yep, I wanna kill it.
I have a ton of it all over my hardscape and I want it gone.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it without being able to remove what it is attached too?

The thing is, it's attached to rocks that are glued to the aquarium glass and I don't want it in the tank anymore.
Is there a way to permanently remove it without draining and ripping apart the tank?

Natural removal: Strip as much as possible. Remove any animal life in it and cover it for 2-4 weeks or longer. Bump the photosythysis process. You will be able to strip even better after time without light. Razor blades, scrapers, all kind of tools to utilize to scrape most of it. It's an on going project until you get it all.

If you want to faster solution, strip and use a weed killer but that gets nasty. You can sell it on AC. If any of this works, send me a bunch of clippings.

Basically, no. Without shutting the tank down you won't be able to completely and forever remove it. That's the beauty of Java Moss. Manually remove it. Don't resort to a herbicide and maybe think twice before gluing anything to the tank.

Take the fish out and inverts and do a heavy dose of algaefix to kill all plant life. It will take about 5 days to 10 days so have a quarantine tank/trash can with a nice filter to keep the other fish alive.

You would do all of this to get rid of a plant?

If the other stuff in the tank will tolerate it, some well directed heavy dosing of Excel aimed at what won't come out by hand will eventually kill it in-situ, but you will still need a toothbrush & patience to get it all out.

Thx Squawbert but I've actually rigged up a syringe and airline tubing to deliver excel directly to the moss and it is doing nothing but causing new growth :(

Are there any fauna that eat java moss?
