I had java moss on a piece of wood in my tank. A couple of goldfish werent doing so well in my pond so I put them in the tank with the moss for a couple of days to nurse them back to health. Within about 3 days, I noticed that the java moss had been completely eaten by the goldfish. I dont know if they always eat it, but mine sure did.
I believe that Siamese Algae Eaters will eat the new growth on java moss, keeping it from spreading. I'm not sure how to go about eliminating it completely.
Yeah, my SAEs and my shrimp, in particular, really like the new growth (even my angel will snack on it sometimes). However, that's just preventing mine from really growing... what's there, remains there.
Have you tried tweezers? I had a bunch on a piece of a castle ornament awhile back, that I didn't want in the tank (the ornament that is, I wanted the moss... opposite problem, I suppose ). I used tweezers to pull off all the moss. There were bits that I couldn't completely remove, but if you could get it to that stage, and you had a couple fish that would nibble on the new growth, you could at least keep it from growing back.
Yep I've got some long tweezers that I use to pull it off.
I just wish there was another way.
The thing about pulling it off......the next time I go to remove it, more of the plant has anchored itself to the rock so I get less and less with the tweezers each time as it keeps creeping over the rock.
