Okay, I've been writing for a few years now, mainly scifi, and need some help from other writers who can critique and help add suggestions to improve my work.
I found a site sffworld.com that has a forum where you can submit pieces of your work for critique and comment.

My issue right now is; how do protect it from being stolen/ edited?

Is there a way I could lock the file so that it could only be a read-only document on anyone else's pc?

Any help on this would be appreciated. BTW, these would only be chapters or shorter length posts, not the entire stories. ~Angela
 
what program are you using for the stories, Riso..... or are you talking if you post the story online, is there a way you can protect it?

Lila does a lot of writing, I'm sure she can help with the critiquing for you.
 
I don't know about protecting from plagiarism or copying.. but exporting it to a pdf/acrobat file should suffice to make sure there are no changes.

I've used pdfcreator in the past without too many problems.

Do the images get saved to a specific file location that is password protected? for example, here you have a gallery, and no one else can make changes to the images you put in there--we can take th epic and alter it, but we can't replace the existing image. I'd imagine most places would have something similar, where the file could only be edited by someone with your password and login.

For PDF's, they are much more secure. Not sure about the online creators, but with Adobe Acrobat, you can customize the security to prevent copying and pasting, editing, etc, and password protect it as well. Love it, use it all the time for work files. It's also really easy to convert Word formats to pdf's, and secure them. A bit on the pricy side, but well worth it IMO. Password protected files in Word are bunk...I can get around it in 10 seconds, re-create the file however I want, and then secure it with my own password.
 
It's not an online creator.. but similar to a printer driver. instead of printing to paper, it creates a PDF of the file that looks as it would if printed out.

It's really basic.. but has been sufficient in my limited use for resumes or similar..

As part of some (I'm not really a Microsoft expert..) version of office, you have the option to print using the 'Microsoft Office Document Image Writer' which is a similar thing, but creates an MDI file.. not sure if there are many options to view that on a non-MS office system which doesn't meet my needs, but may be sufficient for you.
 
Ah...That makes sense. So likely, with this version you'll be able to make modifications to the security settings from within the Word. Adobe Acrobat comes with a Distiller, sounds similar, and you can customize the default settings for the output.
