How to put a screw through slate

Anytime you cut or drill stone of any fashion you need to use a diamond bit as that is what they are designed for. Anything else is asking for failure or other problems. Masonry bits are not designed for it and have large flutes to carry away the dust.
 
None of the glue that anyone mentions in this thread "would be fine."

All of those super glues have chemicals in there that can seriously kill your fish.

Use only 100% silicone designed for aquariums.

Super glue is perfectly safe and is commonly used in reef tanks to glue coral frags to rock and can even be used under water. The super glue gel works best for that application, however.
I've used it countless times, myself.
 
This reads like a bad how many "insert nationality to disparage here" does it take to change a light bulb joke.
