I have one of those Ammonia Alert cards inside the tank, and noticed the color of the button looks different depending on whether the tank light is on or off. Light on, it looks yellow. Light off, pale green. The card has been in the tank for about a week. I'm out of the liquid test so I can't compare, have to pick some up tomorrow.

For those of you who use these, do you read them with the tank lights on or off? How reliable are they?

yeah i bought one of those, its been two months! i don't know how to read mine lolll so i just gave up eventually. get an api master test kit, u should be ok with that. but to be on the safe side, i do water changes once a week because then i feel at peace knowing i'm not missing out on changing the water - if that makes sense?!

Thanks, darn thing was confusing me. I just did a water change yesterday and decided to rearrange some plants while I was at it and stirred up some crud, so a little spike doesn't surprise me. It's been yellow since I bought it and this is the first time I've noticed any kind of change. At least it works, I was beginning to wonder!

Update, did water change, waited a few hours to see if it would adjust color. Still green with lights off, yellow with lights on. So I emailed Seachem, thinking I probably wouldn't hear from them for a week if at all.

Well to my surprise, I got a response within 2 minutes. It's made to be read with the tank lights on, it's normal for it to look greenish when the tank lights are off.

Just thought I'd pass that on to anyone who is confused by this thing!

Yeah I would agree that light behind the sensor makes it more confusing (since it doesn't block all the light behind it/glue), it's the surface you want to read, which is definitely easier to read with light in front instead of in behind it.

Now if I could just get Seachem's PH sensor to read... I have yellow to red... what I get our various shades of brown. @#4(*@#
