How to Say Cichlid

I am curious because many people say it like 2 different way. I will type how they sound not spelt.

Example 1:
Chick-lids

Example 2:
Sick-lids


I personally say it number 2. It drives me nuts when people say it #1. Am I wrong? Also is there any other way to say cichlid?

I say Sicklid.... never heard anyone try Chicklid

Yeah I was at Petco (which I hate!) Got some supplies cause I needed badly so I went there not the LFS cause the LFS is further away and was a mini emergency! ( Fish had some weird thing on his head) and I got there I was like yeah my cichlid has a weird thing on his head. The (fish expert) corrected me saying no its chick-lids. I was like whatever buddy Im 14 and I know how 2 say it and your the EXPERT and you don't know how to say it. And I have heard other people say it that way!

i say it like sick-lid i HATE it when ppl say chick-lid even my aunt says it that way... i try to corect her tho but dont work..

Where does the "Chicklid" come from?

The word is either Greek or Latin Cichlidae (sp?) Innit?

I read somewhere (seems to me it was in Axelrod's Atlas) that the correct pronounciation is SEEKlid, but 99% of the folks I've talked to pronounce it SICKlid.

just by looking at the word 'cichlid' i don't know how anyone would get a 'ch' noise out of 'ci'.......... it's pronounced sicklid, and there is no other way! lol.
