How to slow down tank current.

I use the Aquascape to deflect the current when needed. Plants will work too.

Plants grow all awkward if you have the water current hitting them :( I have an anacharis that bends now... because it's right infront of my filter. Moving it elsewhere would ruin the looks of my tank though.

Deadline:

The above posts describe energy dissipation.

Directing the flow toward a stable object (ie. a tank wall, wood, rock, etc.) will reduce the current as the energy of the discharge flow will be dissipated.

Have you thought of trying a sponge filter instead of the HOB? I switched my betta tank to a sponge filter for this same reason, and my betta is more active since. I have my HOB filters stored for use whenever I may need to run carbon, and debris is removed with water changes, so I'm fine without mechanical filtration. I thought sponge filters were mostly for small tanks, but they make some pretty big ones for bigger tanks.
