i'm just wondering, but how do u tell the difference?

Females- Orange bellies, Rounded fins(sometimes)
Males-No Orange, Pointed fins.

Actually some males have been known to get a bit of the orange coloring to their bellies, not as bright as the females get. But yes it's mainly females who get the coloring. Also Convicts are one of the few known Cichlids that can change their sex when they are a juvenile, Ive had two males before about 2 1/2" and one changed to a female and got the orange coloring to the belly.

I was going to point this out also. my male has some orange on him, but its not nearly as much as females

Is this really true? I started keeping cichlids about 10 years ago and have never heard that convicts [or any cichlid] could change sex. Is there any documentation on this that I could read? I currently have a pair of pink convicts and about a hundred fry that are going to the auction in 2 weeks.

Mike, your saying that a 2.5" male convict became a female? Thats kind of hard to believe.
