Hi all. I'm currently keeping a Florida-themed 30g with flagfish, tapegrass, grass shrimp, and mollies. I hope to make the tank slightly brackish in the future, but right now it's fully fresh. I know sailfin mollies are native to Florida, and I thought I purchased sailfins but, after reading a few things online, now I'm not sure. My fish were labeled sailfins (Poecilia latipinna), but how can you be certain?

What store did you buy them from? Mixed tank?

And you will never know the breeder they came from...could be from a large pond/tank style breeder and actually be mixed.

those are highly bred aquarium mollies and very likely hibrid mix of mollie species, not pure latipinna. Probable false labeling by the store to claim they are that specific species. Even if you obtained some wild type high fin mollies you would have to study them carefully to note which high fin molly it is, because there are two species with showy dorsal fins.
