How well do oscars and puffers do together?

Just studying up before I try. The sign at lfs says "Very Aggressive" for the green spotted puffer. Can you put them with oscars? Like, 2&2 in 20 gallon tank?

If you're uneducated, that's why this site is here. Those fish will not work. Puffers need to be kept in a species tank, and oscars need a +75g tank.
 
I'm just a beginner here. I have a 75 gallon supposed to be delivered to my house by the end of this week. I just wasn't sure if they could be kept together since they are both very aggressive fish. Thanks. I won't try it. Could you tell me what exactly a species tank is? Not April fools! Like I said, I'm just a beginner. All I have right now is a 10 gallon with some ghost shrimp, 3 male fancy guppies, and a glass fish. Then I have a 20 gallon cycling.(75 gallon on order.)Thanks again.

A species tank, is a tank with only one species. Meaning you would have to have a tank with just the puffer. Also, the GSP goes in FW as a baby, high brackish as a juvenile, and Salt water as an adult. This is only one of the reasons it should not have tankmates. As large, territorial ambush preditors, they will kill anything that gets near them with thier powerful beak. If you are considering the puffer, click here

Ok. I see now. Why is it that they do not say that at lfs? They are sold as fw. Kinda like glass fish I guess. They didn't tell me they were brackish. N-e-ways, my husband was considering the gsp, but I think he likes the oscars better and he's had them before.......By the way, that's a dead link or something, it says "Page cannot be displayed."
 
Puffers wouldn't need a species tank. But, they would need completely different water conditions than an Oscar. Brackish/salt water can support a number of different fish. The Puffer would work in this setting. Oscars need fresh water with high PH and hard water.

The LFS (assuming it's a chain) is run by the same people who can't offer you much help in a big electronics chain store. 99% are hired because they have a heartbeat, not because they are qualified to really help.

See if you can find a 'mom & pop' fish store. I'm fairly certain you'll get MUCH better assistance there.

It seems you are already shopping and your tank has not arrived yet. You need to have that tank up and running for awhile before you put fish in.

Just to nip any premature stocking in the bud. If you buy expensive fish and use them to cycle you're wasting your money and hurting your fish.
