Howdy Y'all!!
Well i am new to Aquaria Central, kinda new to fish tanks. By that i mean that my mom had the tanks when i was growing up but they were her babies. So i am no an idiot to aquariums, just not a pro.I just recently acquired a 29 gallon tank. I put in 3 tiger barbs, 2 ghost shrimp, 1 orange mystery snail, and a plecostomus . Well the other day, 2 tiger barbs died, then the next morning my pleco was dead, but all other are doing great, so i am not sure as to what was the cause. I also just acquired 4 Jack Dempsey's will be adding to the tank today (4-1-10) so i will be carefully watching the fish these next few weeks to see how they handle it all. So that's my situation and am open to any suggestions, comments or questions. Thanks for the help and hope to hear from

Howdy from Texas!!

First off, Welcome to AC. Now... the jd's will outgrow that tank and are aggressive. Also they would end up eating your barbs, shrimp and snail also, cichlids love snails. As for the deaths, did you cycle your tank? Also do you have a test kit? If so what kind/brand is it and what were the reading? What is the temp of your tank and what brand and size of filter are you using? Is there any decor in there that is not aquarium safe, or any rock, wood etc. that you found and did not clean prior to putting it in your tank? There are many variables to take into consideration and more info is needed so the experts here on AC can help and inform you in the best way that they can. Also, start a thread in the Freshwater disease/illness forum and that will help all others see that you are having issues with loss. Sorry @ your fish and when you start a thread in the disease forum give as much info as you can, including answers to the q's I have asked here. Good luck, f-n-c.

Welcome to AC!
