Hubby ready to give up, RED SLIME ALGAE

Siphon

My husband also hated the siphon mouth  - we use a tool called a squeeze vac gravel cleaner that works great for getting the water going.

I agree with you, it is very frustrating to never get it totally gone, just seems to make the tank not a wonderfull hobby. I think that cleaning it and watching it come back could be very helpfull in finding the actual root of the problem.

I also agree that the less man made stuff you throw in the happier the guests are.

The tank seems to be improving over the last 4 days - not sure yet which fix we tried was done to get it moving in the right direction.
None of the things we did were dramatic at all - more water changes, getting our calcium up, adjusting powerheads, increased the surface skimmer flo rate and a little less food, and finding this forum to aid us in learning.

Thanks a lot for all of info on water fsn77 - that kind of detail is extremlly helpful :bowing:

Im experiencing the same problem (with the red algae) My tank's water gets turned around atleast 35 times/hour. And flow is virtually everywhere. I think i must add a snail or two, (my tank is only 50 liters.) what do you think?

You're quite welcome -- no problem.

Keep us updated on how things progress and the steps you ended up taking to get things back under control. It's always good for other reefkeepers to know what has worked in others' tanks, especially if the largest cost is time and not money.
