I just purchased a small huma huma trigger and put it in my tank along with a dogface puffer, zebra eel, yellow tang, sailfin tang, and a large lion. The trigger is only about 1-1.5 inches is there anything I can do to asure lion wont eat my trigger....

You should be more worried about the Trigger picking on and harassing the Lion.

Humu's arent the best tank mates, to begin with and you should keep a VERY close eye on it. They're very well known to be menaces and can/will harass and even kill your other fish.

If I were you I would return the Trigger. Unfortunately it probably won't work in the long run with your current inhabitants. At one point as AW2EOD said the Trigger will turn the tables and go after the fins of the Lion. It will also more than likely constantly pick on the Puffer causing an ich outbreak, and the Trigg could even go after the Eel if hungry/angry enough. If you are really wanting a trigg I would go for one with an upturned mouth (such as Niger, Pinktail, Blue Throat, Red tail, etc) as these feed in the water column which greatly decreases the chance they will go after the other fish. Anyway hope this helps and good luck!

I've heard from numerous sources that the Humu is one of the least aggressive of the triggers (the most 'passive' being the Niger-- mine is quite peaceful, so far). All the others, supposedly, are varying degrees of aggressive. I would think that, if the tank were large enough, that the Humu would not cause too much trouble.

true but they cant usually resist flashy fins...and lions have a lot of flashy fins.

I kept a trigger with a lion without a problem but the lion was about 4" long. However, as triggers get older they get more mischievous. You could actually pet my huma when you put your finger in the tank. he would come right up and I would rub his head like a :dog: . Pretty wierd. I had to take him back though because I started a reef after a few years in that tank.
