And I wouldn't call humans a virus or cancer. We're just the ultimate invasive species.
 
Call us whatever name you feel is convenient.

When the only concern whether we dump toxic waste in the ocean or not is monetary, we're pretty ****-poor examples of life on this planet...and that's just one example of what some people's greed will compel them to do.

I'm kinda curious why someone would say that the man either had to be a hypocrite or commit suicide. It's possible he is a good, decent person but can also recognize those who aren't.

We (and I use the term loosely) make the choice to destroy our environment for our temporary benefit. As a species, we spent thousands and thousands of years doing no serious harm to it. Even today, there are still tribes on this planet that co-exist peacefully with their environment. It is only as technology developed in different parts of the world, that we began using up our natural resources at rates which nature could not compete with. The eventual outcome of our treatment of the planet may share similarity to the effects of a virus, but that's as far as the similarities go.

A virus, has no choice. It has no brain, has no thoughts, it simply does what it does, and that's the sole function of it's existence.

This guy has no clue what a virus actually is, and needs to learn how to separate the sci from the fi.
 
Well, a virus does take over and destroys everything, and that is what we humans are doing. 7 billion people, running out of land, food, air, causing cancer, killing each other over our own stupidity. Most people could care less about others or the future and won't give up their "needs".
 
All resources are finite...this world can't go on the way it is forever. It will run out of resources, whether this happens hundreds of thousands of years from now is up for debate.

Unfortunately, when we run out of _____ (oil, water, food?) is so far away that most of us do not wish to inconvenience ourselves. The only way to significantly prolong these resources would be to start rationing them...and we all know how Americans feel about that concept!

Because the only real environmentalist is a dead one. You can't really complain about people putting a strain on the planet if you're one of the people putting a strain on the planet. No quicker way to reduce your carbon footprint than to off yourself. Not saying I believe this train of thought, just that I understand the reasoning behind it.

In a slightly less hyperbolic explanation, human life on this planet, regardless of how conscientious one might be, inevitably leads to the destruction of resources and to the creation of waste. The problems facing us as a species are not just about the allocation of resources, but overpopulation as well. There is fucntionally no way to live on this earth without causing some measure of damage, so for those who are worred about the problem, and realize that they cannot extricate themselves from being a problem, if they truly cared, the only logical solution would be to remove their own biomass from the earth, and subsequently remove all of the waste they would have created, and conserve all of the resources they would have used.
