He considers them all color variants of the same species and I would be inclined to treat them as such, at least as behavior is concerned, until I can observe them myself. I have not kept the Amititliana cf. "HRP" but my wife wants a pair and will probably get some pretty soon. I personally wouldn't want to keep any of the Amatitliana or Cryptoheros species in less than a 30 (not to say you can't try in a 20g) and she'll be working with a 38g. Will probably stay there for a couple years and moved in to a 50g long term. Of course, she may totally change her mind when we go to the auction next month.
I noticed when I was breeding the cutteri that they weren't the easiest fish to sell because the demand wasn't that high for them or people didn't know what they were. That was about 6/7 years ago maybe. Demand might be higher now. I sold the whole group off at auction but I can't for the life of me remember what I got for them.

im really stumped whether or not to get a pair. id really like to see them breed. if i decide not to get a pair ill probably end up getting a convict and the cutteri(if thatll work).
i think ill purchase two cutteri fry. i probably wont have problems with two males since females are present and you should see how many caves i have. wait would a cutteri with a pair of dwarf cichlids work or would the dwarfs breeding stress the cutteri out? i really cant decide on what i want to do. all i know is that i want a cutteri, i dont want to buy a pair, and i want atleast 2 fish in the tank.
lol, you sound like me. Trying to figure out exactly what you can be hard. That's why at one point I had over 40 tanks running at once and 20+ in reserve. I got down to 1 for 5 years and now I'm back up to 4 (not counting my kid's tank). Now, my wife wants one and I have a rack that will hold eight 10g's that I just constructed a new air system for. Silly hobby.

Dwarfs would also be a good choice for your size tank. I don't have a lot of experience with dwarfs (only a couple species of shell dwellers). I do know that some species of apistos do better in trios than pairs, but someone else will have to inform you on which. I can never remember.

i think ill do the cutteri pair. i really wanna see some baby fishes. hopefully it wont be too hard to sell them. i can always go to the LFS and see if theyd like to sell some since i personally think theyre prettier. i thought it was the opposite that they got black and white during breeding and had yellows and such when not breeding.
