Hybrids?

"Cucumis melo with Cucumis metuliferus."

Those sound like two different species (Genus name then species name) making it the usual interspecific hybrid.

And yes, the definition of a species will change depending on what you are working with. There are many species concepts, each is basically one proposed definition. But each has some pretty big limitations. So depending on what type of organism you are working with and what types of limitations it has, the definition/concept used will change.
 
Actually hybrid and crosses are interchangeable and can mean a variety of things. It's not really set in stone. Normally you use interspecific or intraspecific if you want to be clear about it. Hybrid vegetable seed is a cross between two inbred lines of the same species. ...
The ultimate line between species is usually blurred. In dogs a great dane and a mini - yorky are the same species but can they physically produce offspring (no). Genetically they are compatable but physically they are not.
