Hydra.. What to do?

IF YOU DO try the dog dewormer USE the SNALLESt amount you can, AS I mentined *( under your finger nail ) I have seen too much put into a tank, and fish and or shrimp death occur, BUT IF you use the small amount, THEN do a water change next day , look for any live ones.... Only if you have more slive would you add in more powder. This is a common tank problem , thats why SO many of us, KNOW how to FIX it :) ~ just be very careful with your amount, remeber you can alwasy re-dose again after 24 hours. GOOD LUCK & HTH ~~

Also, make sure you disolve all of it in water before you put it in your tank. It's really hard to get it to disolve completely. If it's not disolved, your shrimp/fish may try to eat it which would be fatal.

Thanks again for all the responses. I did a large water change and really stirred things up when I did it and a day later I don't see any more monsters. I don't know that they are gone, but no visible signs is a good start. I'm going to get the dewormer any way, just in case they resurface. I like to have a good supply of the usuals in the medicine cabinet, maracyn melafix, etc. I'll add dog wormer to the mix! Is that something that I have to get from the vet's office or does petsmart or other pet stores sell it?

Pet stores often carry it. I got mine from one of the major pet places. I use the "Safegard" brand as it is highly recommended.

I bought mine from a feed & seed' store. was about 5.00 for 3 packets that I am sure i will NEVER use all of them, me & my BF have shared this one box now for over a yer, treating anything from planeria, *( works great !!) and the hydra ... these 2 I KNOW it ill get rid of, just mix it in water a tiny' amount, (under your nail ) and then pour in tank not on top of any shrimp or fish.... then wait 24 hours, do a HUGE water change 50 % or MORE .. then afte another 24 hours, look in and see if you find any, also hint' when you do the after treatment water change, try to do a vacum over the bottom, I kno it a little harder & slower process with the shrimp in the tank, but this will pick up all your dead' hydra. This method works , and You ill be glad they are gone, when they are.. ~ HTH & GL !!
