Hydra!

I think i noticed these things in my oscar tank last week
they were growing on the uneaten peices of turkey that
i fed to the oscars i hadnt cleaned the tank in a few weeks
and noticed that the uneaten peicies of turkey had these whitish
looking things all on them i really dont know how else to
describe em maybe they are hydra.. i just siphoned out all
of the excess food and wasted during my last water change
and everything seems alot better water is clearer at least.     :bowing: :bowing:   :thud:

That's kind of what I noticed, my first thought was some sort of white algea, but of course anything that photosynthesizes most likely won't be white. They seemd to like the path of current acroos my driftwood, and on my vals. everywhere they could catch waste as it went by.I imagine they are probably still in my tank at some level, but no longer highly visible.

To get rid of Hydra purchase Fluke Tabs at your local fish store. Use 1/2 tablet to each 10 gallon of water. Crush and mix with water in a small glass and just dump it in. No ill effects to fish or plants and Hydra will be gone in less than 2 hours.

Are the fluke tabs safe for frogs, though? I am hesitant to add strange chemicals to the tank in any case, but I would need to know for sure that my frogs would be okay if it got the point where the hydra were taking over, and I wanted to use something like that.

I have a few ramshorn hitchhikers in the tank as well, but they aren't too plentiful. I can only see one at the moment, so they probably aren't helping to take care of much of the hydra.

Thanks for all that info, daveedka. :D
