What is the best way to rid my tank of hydra? 10 gallon planted tank with 4 corydoras habrosus, 4 rasbora espei, 2 otos, 1 male betta, some MTS and 2 nerite snails. Help!

Thanks!

There are a couple of other old threads on this subject, Basically the My research came up with Red ramshorn snails being the best solution. Since you already have snails, and understand their benefit, Adding a few red rams should work nicely. Removing Ramshorns isn't extremely difficult because they have to be pretty decent (very visible) size before they reproduce. But I would also add that Ramshorns have easily become my favorite snail so you may decide not to remove them later.

Do the ramshorns eat plants? Thanks for the link, MKML! I had actually read that article but am afraid of treating my tank with meds that will kill my snails. I always thought hydra were microscopic but they are not, I can see them on my plant leaves swaying in the current! :rant2:

You think that's bad, I have tons of little creatures in my nano with no fish to eat them. You begin to really realize how many of those suckers the fish eat! My honey gouramis are always pecking at everything in my 20g. I know they'd LOVE my nano creatures.

No, I think they are really neat. However, they eat fry as well as young snails and my dwarf cory cats are spawning. I would rather have the cories.

Gouramis are actually supposed to be great at eating hydra. I was considering getting one temporarily for my 10 gallon then moving it to my 37 gallon, do they get along with guppies?

Unbelieveable!! Really cool pictures. Another thread had a Cyclops and a nemotode picture too. I have to send these links to my friend. She always does the "suck with mouth" method to get her vaccum started in her tank. EWWWW!!! If she only knew what she may be getting in her mouth  I asked if she knew how to do it withougt doening that and she does...it's just quicker her way. I'm so grateful I have a Python cleaner! LOL
Good luck getting rid of them. I will have to keep a close eye on my aquarium to see if I can find anything interesting.
They hydra are really cool looking to me, but I don't have any fry.

Do the ramshorns eat plants?

Common ramshorns do not eat plants, like pond snails and MTS's they are extremely beneficial to a planted tank. I did not get to test them myself on Hydra, I had a fish that found it tasty, and therefore it was gone in short order, and allowed me no chance for experimentation.

Those pictures are really amazing. I had a class last spring and had to go puddle jumping in Feb to collect some of these suckers. And here they were right in your fish tank all along!

Are they pretty green in color? I can't tell because the green on the leaves is so ... green. Amazing stuff!
