I was thinking about getting the hydro flow water deflector for my 12 aquapod or is it better to leave it with the lockline y split it comes with ?

I have one, tried it for about a month and took it off. It reduces the flow to much for my taste and is VERY big in the tank. I had it in my 29G tank and was too big and ugly looking, I couldn't imagine it in a 12G tank.

hey I keep playing with my flow, but right now I have the Y in there on the locline, but I cut it down to 2 links coming off each Y, and I get rid of the flat sprayers..
I put a Koralia Nano on the left side.. this makes more flow than from the loc-line..

For your tank, the 5oz elite would be fine. I would still replace it once a month though, and rinse it out once a week.
